The Czech-Spanish crew consisting of Aleš Loprais, Ferran Marco Alcayna, Petr Pokora and their Tatra Jamal #507 continue to struggle for the final rank among the top six in the truck category. The people and the truck have covered eight stages, each ever more demanding than the previous ones. But that is Dakar in it its true form of the most famous marathon rally which never gives anything to anybody for free. The actors of the rally are over the demanding first week of the race, ended with two marathon stages, between which the crews had to do without assistance of their accompanying teams. It was a nice birthday party, despite the fact that the only “guests” of the honouree were the Spanish navigator Ferran Marco Alcayna and the Czech mechanic Petr Pokora, and the venue the first of the two marathon stages of the 41st Dakar Rally on Thursday 10 January. The crew of the Tatra Jamal – Queen 69 of the Instaforex Loprais Team was successful on the route between Arequipa and Tacna and the truck with the starting number 507 moved five ranks up in the interim overall ranking of the truck category.

It has been a while since Dakar and Aleš Loprais is getting ready for another race. The second biggest truck race in the world – the famous Morocco Desert Challenge. Loprais will be racing with his Tatra Queen 69, under the banner of InstaForex Loprais team again.

InstaForex Loprais Team joined the celebration of the 40th Rallye Dakar by returning back to Czech trucks Tatra, and model Queen 69 in this case. Aleš Loprais, Ferran Marco Alcayna and Lukáš Janda entered the competition in the best possible way by winning the first stage. It was Loprais' ninth Dakar stage win in overall.

Unfortunately, the InstaForex Loprais Team had to say goodbye to this year´s Dakar prematurely. Aleš Loprais started fantastically, when he won the very first stage with his beloved Tatra Queen 69. Subsequent technical problems accompanying him during the third and the fourth stage unfortunately resulted in the withdrawal from the race.

The team was struggling with the technology of the truck since the start of the 4th Dakar stage. At the end of the last part of the measured section the Queen overturned in one funnel and Aleš was forced to stay in the dunes with his team overnight.

Aleš Loprais completed the third Dakar stage in the 17th position with a loss of 1hr 26 min. The reason were technical problems in the first part of the measured section, which he encountered on the way. Nevertheless, Loprais intends to continue fighting and wishes to make his technology survive.

Aleš Loprais started from the first position and opened the way for the competition. However, during the second stage from Pisco to Pisco, which was demanding in terms of navigation, he did not manage to avoid minor technical problems. The loss of time with tightening of the front axle and fixing the spare wheel after one of the jumps over a dune eventually resulted in falling 6 minutes behind the leading Nikolaev and the second Villagra.

Today´s stage was relatively short compared to the others. But even in this short stage we could not avoid problems. We had to fight with a cracked hose, water leakage to the engine, and overheating of the engine, which was continuously above 100 °C. We stood for about 20 minutes, so we were overtaken by almost everyone we had already outperformed. What should we add...

We are now reporting from the bivouac, so it is clear to all of you that we are well behind the today´s stage. We survived the stage, however, it was not a piece of cake. We started from the last place, so we had to overtake and after one ford our problem with charging came back. The cooling did not work properly as a result, so we could not go faster, and it even started raining in the last part of the stage. So the original dry road became one big ice rink. It's not a complaint, it's a statement.

Perhaps the universe does not want us in very much ... We experience incredible feelings of vanity. Unfortunately, even today's stage does not develop according to a more favorable scenario. This time, we were betrayed by the electrics. The truck did not charge and would slowly stop, so we called the service again and we are on the yesterday´s boat. Time is really flying. We are in for some hard work again at night and what will follow we do not know at this moment, because we have a long way to go to the bivouac.

We apologize to all our supporters for not having kept the yesterday's promise. The move was very challenging, we arrived to the bivouac in the morning and everyone was already in THE stage. It was then decided upon consultation with the organizers that we would leave out this stage again, and would give the mechanics a little chance to recover. We move to Astana, and tomorrow nothing will stop us from meeting new experiences.

The third stage from Ufa was without us. The failure of the Queen was more serious than we dared to hope. We only had a lamella for the replacement, but the pressure plate was damaged too. We managed to fix it in the workshops of Kamaz. We owe infinite thanks to Mr. Vladimir Chagin and Semjan Jakubov for exemplary help in our trouble. We were repairing it all night until six o'clock in the morning, which was followed by a short rest and further hard work on the Queen. We had to give up the start in the stage and move to the bivouac in Kostanay, Kazakhstan. We hope tomorrow we will be at the start of the next stage. We believe that we will stay for a while longer in the race, even though our clutch problems, due to telemetry values, can be repeated.

This day did not bring us anything good and we will not repeat the yesterday's result. In today's speed trial we stood three times. Twice for a broken hose, and for the third time it was a fatal breakdown: shattered clutch. We could not shift anything out of the neutral, so we could just wait for towage. No one, of course, stopped by, only the pilot Boucou in the end, but in such a difficult terrain it was impossible for him to help us. All we had to do was to contact our teammates and they provided for towage, and afterwards, our boys came already from the bivouac.

We have completed the first stage with a length of almost 727 km. The connecting section was very unpleasant and long. It was in traffic jams, it seemed to never come to an end. Moreover, it rains heavily here, too. We arrived at the start of the speed test at the last minute, we were dressing up practically while driving. The speed test was 61 km long.

We send greetings to all fans of our team. I'm glad that we managed to curb the nerves and finished the today's stage in calm. Although the emotions of some teams escalated in the today's short stage, needless to say that it was unnecessary. We announce that the only thing that awaits us is the ceremonial ramp in Buenos Aires, after that the last night in the bivouac and on Sunday, packaging and transport of the equipment to the port. The mission will be concluded by a little tiring plane trip home, to which we incredibly look forward to.


Considering that what we encountered at this year's rally in the form of technical problems, we are extremely satisfied with the result. Having advanced from 14th place to 7th place overall is a beautiful satisfaction for us.


I would like to thank all the fans for their support, for a lot of SMS messages, emails and various comments. We read everything but did not manage to respond to all. We'll try to fix it. Today was really atrocious for me. In the yesterday's stage probably a drank too little, I am dehydrated and most probably suffered a heatstroke. I felt pretty bad since morning, I had a nausea and I struggled with it the entire first section of the split stage. I do not know what's worse. If it is the body or the equipment that does not work. We drove in high sands, with many jumps, simply amazing for my floating stomach. The second part of the speed trial was very dusty, we drove about 70 km behind a car that did not want to let us overtake, so today we are probably also after dinner because we are full of the dust we had swallowed, not needing any second helping. Given the circumstances, we are satisfied with the result, we could not do anything more!


Tomorrow´s 12th stage will be the last one, from RIO CUARTO to BUENOS AIRES.
The last stage speed trial will be 64 km, which we will drive in the very first part of the stage and then we will have to undergo a long unpleasant crossing to Buenos Aires. The total length of the stage is 786 km. Although the measured section is short, we must not underestimate anything, because there's nothing to gain, but everything to lose. We need your support until the very end.

This year's second long stage is behind us. It was not perfect, moreover, it was again divided by neutralization zone, which I do not like, but this time it helped us, because we had to change the wheel in its course. Fortunately, we managed everything in time and we could jump into the second part. But again, nothing was easy. We hit a stone and the power steering pump hose burst. We could not turn the wheel again, we had to stop and repair. On top of that, about 100 kilometres before the finish, after a decent jump, oil leaked from the rear shock absorbers, so we really enjoyed the ride. However, we retained the fifth place in the stage, which is under these conditions a decent result. The track was challenging and quite broken and we are pleased that the technology survived. Tomorrow we will start from the fifth place, which is certainly a better position than today. Unfortunately, there is only the tomorrow's stage, which may allow for something to happen.

The 9th stage was supposed to be The Royal Stage. But this year´s DAKAR does not belong to the fortunate ones. The capricious weather even divided the participants and their accompaniments. Part of them is already in Salta while others are on the road across the mountains directly to Chilecito. The alternate route snakes at altitudes above 4000 m, at a length of about 1200 km and makes use of the unpaved roads, so it will be really challenging for some of the accompanying vehicles. We believe that the difficult path will be overcome by everyone without much trouble and that the two groups will meet in Chilecito in the evening. Perhaps everybody will eventually get serviced, vehicles as well as people, and tomorrow the race will start again. Probably nothing significant will happen, but if the length and difficulty stages remain as originally planned, there may be still some shifts in the final ranking.

Today's shortened stage, the last in Bolivia, is behind us. We will wave to the mountains and I must say that I am not satisfied with today's result, even though we did not have any technical problems. We did not have enough power. We just could not keep up. The vehicles around were faster. We hope that we were choked mainly by the altitude. Disillusion is also due to the length of the stage, because the constant reduction of sharp kilometres can definitely help us to better overall result.

After a day off we set out for a stage with shortened speed trial of 161 km. The stage was a combination of a part of the route of the original today´s and tomorrow´s stage. The special stretch was initially in the dunes, later in sandy terrain and finally the drivers had to overcome gravel, which actually became mud. Since this is a marathon stage, all the crews after arriving to bivouac remain without assistance and mechanics, being allowed to service their vehicles only by themselves.

The fifth stage was a test of nerves for the crew more than anything else. Our problem with the power steering pump reoccurred 3 times, and the fact that we got to the finish in good health was due to the force majeure. The bivouac that expected us in the finish, was completely flooded. The organizers´ decision to cancel the next stage was reasonable. After spending the night on a closed highway, we moved to La Paz. A stunning place, enchanting landscape, but the weather is bad. It was raining until 10 o´clock of local time and it stopped raining, but there is a lot of mud everywhere and we will see what happens next. In all that the mechanics work hard on technology, and even the necessary spare parts have arrived. We thank the quick connection with a rucksack on the back and we believe that all of this will help us.

It can´t be true! Today´s initial phase of the stage was almost identical to the yesterday´s one from our point of view. Shortly after the start of the speed trial we encountered the same problem. The power steering pump again! With the only difference that it is raining today. Another loss of 27 minutes.

Shortly after the start the hopes for a good result in the today's stage dissolved. We had to stop and the finding that the culprit was once again the pump seems almost incomprehensible. But it was a fact. Then, of course, we tried to make up for the loss in a chase with all the problems and dangers. Dust, anger, impossibility to overtake, so the final 9th position in the stage under these circumstances is actually a success. Overall, we aer in the 11th place with a loss of 36.51 min to the first truck. If we do not have to fight with today's issues, the chances of a better result are still alive. But the difficulty of the stages must continue.

The third stage is over. Nothing pleasant really. We started from the 12th position, so we could expect a lot of dust and overtaking. We were quite successful in the first part of the measured section, and we finished in fourth place. We suffered through the connecting stretch of the stage approximately 500 km long. I do not like it, as one drops out of the race rhythm, but nothing can be done about it. We succeeded in the second part of the measured trial, we were achieving stable times, and it seemed that we would improve our tomorrow's starting position. We were in fifth place at the last WP, with the loss of around 4 minutes to the first truck. But in the last part, about 20 km before the finish, we encountered a technical problem. Servo pump. It was exchanged recently. What can I say. We lost half an hour, dropped down to 17th place in the stage and overall, we are in 13th place. We go on!

I am glad that the today's stage is already behind us. It was agony. Crazy heat, almost 50°C outdoors and almost 80°C in the cabin. I am still fighting with an illness, so I turn up the heating a little bit. Pretty harsh! However, the heat is with all of us. Our loss is 5.09 minutes to the winner, which is not much and the crunch will come somewhere else. This just shows how equal the competitors are this year and the differences are minimal. I am still getting to know the truck and I believe that we will be friends.

We have completed the first hard stage of the Dakar Rally.

 

The speed trial measured only 39 km, but it was very narrow and broken. Furthermore, the weather was incredibly hot, the truck was like a sauna. There is much to lose and quite nothing to gain in such a stretch of the race. So our 31 seconds behind Martin Kolomý, who won the stage, is a good initial result. We will start again from the fourth position in the tomorrow´s stage.

The upcoming stage will take us to the territory of Argentina, RESISTENCIA - SAN MIGUEL DE TUCUMÁN. The section for trucks will be 812 km long, of which 284 km will be a speed trial. The first truck will depart at 18.10 CET. The weather will probably be our biggest enemy that takes on all its disguises and can bring about pretty unpredictable situations. We are already counting down the time until the start of the 2017 Dakar Rally. The weather is incredibly variable.

 

A few days of showers in 37 degree heat evoke the climate equal to a laundry room. Humidity, mosquitoes, ants, almost useless to take a shower and all this at a time when we need to prepare the most before the start of the competition. The calming aspect of these conditions is only the fact that they are the same for all the participants. In this tropical day we also set out for the required shakedown located about 3 hours far from the bivouac in Asuncion.

We passed the test in extreme sultriness, but we have tested all that was possible to test. Now we have to undergo a process of technical and administrative scrutineering and stable our horses in "parc fermé". A place where we will not be allowed to enter until the very final moment of the start of the race. As always, there is something overwhelming and difficult waiting ahead, which is hard to describe in words, and must be experienced.

We received quiet high starting number so we faced the ride in the real dust behind the cars and trucks starting before us. We had 2 moments where we had to stop. (broken air hose and puncture). The puncture came unfortunately 50 km before the finish. I was too aggressive on the brakes and tyre was completely separated. Our colleagues Gerard DeRooy and Ton Van Genugten also had punctures.

We're at the finish line! Today's stage did not go as was planned due to the weather conditions, it was just 33 kilometers long and therefore we were arriving only in a constant line of cars and trucks. Due to the heavy rain we could not overtake because it was dangerous for all.

The twelfth stage of this year's competition will be among those to which we will remember. We started quite well, until the place where I saw a lot of dust and stones. I sent truck in 140 km speed to the other side, but there were stones as well, we hit the rock by rear wheel and got the puncture.

Argentina welcomed us this time with a bad weather. A lot of rain and a lot of water was everywhere and it was the water, what forced us to stop our truck for two or three minutes, because the water pressure us pulling away fender and part of truck structure.

Today was a terrible stage where we had crucial fails with the technics. From the first WP we lost brake cylinder and we had brakes only at the right rear wheel. Turns we went always in drift, several times we flew off the track and met several other minor problems.

The eight stage is done.  We were first on the start from marathon bivouac, but it wasn´t any advantage. The stage was quite difficult for navigation. Trucks did a separate section without a traces and when we found some of them, they were from the previous stage and by them it was a lot more confusing.

The sixth stage was black and the seventh one gold now! We started from eleventh place by using a “joker”, who put us right at the start right behind the first 10 teams from the previous day. Everything went well for us and luckily we not met problems from yesterday, after which we are really sorry looking at the result list, but we still keep fighting.

Today's stage from Antofagasta to Iquique along the Pacific coast was black for our crew. The whole stage we did at a quite optimal pace. “Everything went well, and then came the dunes. Unfortunately because under inflation one the tires we lost rubber from the wheel, followed by a puncture and we stopped sat on the belly,” said Aleš after the stage.

The first special stage normally doesn´t give you any advantage, but teams still could lost a lot, for this reason we are satisfied with our result. Our SUPERMAN just went through the technical scrutineering without any problems and with a 9000 km in front of him thought South America and three countries of Argentina, Chile and Bolivia. Hungarian Baja report - Both InstaForex trucks quit the last stage of the Hungarian race.

 

The truck called Princess driven by Tomas Kasparek lost the front wheel after a huge jump 25 km before the finish.

 

"We were pushing too hard to achieve the podium. It is a new experience for us in such a hard speedy and bumby terrain ".....said young Thomas.

 

Quiet different adventure was waiting for the Ales Loprais who was leading the whole truck category.
After the victory in Poland it was Ales who was on the list of the candidates for a gold medal.

"We took a nice comfortable lead in the 4th stage which we wanted to control till the finish. But in the service zone we did an amateur human mistake by refuelling when we took not enough fuel. The heart of our Queen stop to beat only 10 km before the finish. It was a new frustrating experience when our engine stop because of low fuel. Our engine has new maping and sucks little bit more than we expected. We need to learn from our fatal mistake for the future" .... said Ales.

The team is now preparing for a coming test session with Budweiser Budvar winners who will join the team for the next days...

“The weather was beautiful for our further testing in the military Zahorie near Senica in the Slovak Republic. We tested the three essential elements of our Queen 69 – new engine cooling, control and stabilization. We couldn’t do it better. We started much in the back and we had to overtake twenty opponents. Even so, we are glad to our third podium finish in this year of the Silk Way Rally. Although we couldn’t complement our collection of bronze and gold laurel from previous years, however, twice the second and once the third place in the stage give us hopes. If the Queen goes without failure, she literally flies. We will continue to develop and debug this new truck for the next Dakar Rally 2014,” comments Aleš Loprais the last seventh stage and the participation in the Silk Way Rally 2013.

News from the last days of the rally you can see on the ČT Sport in programme Motor Sports Silk Way Rally 2013 on Saturday 13/07 at 10 pm and on Sunday at 9:20 am (a 20-minute look back at the ending year).

Tomorrow there will be a closing ceremony on stage for all competitors and saying goodbye to this year’s race.

“Greetings to everybody. Today the Queen has given us a hard time. We lost over 40 minutes because of a fault with the fuel supply. We made a hole into the fuel tank and we had just enough fuel to finish the second stage. We had to clog and bleed the tank. Also we were today faced a defective intercom and navigation. It was a hellish stage. In the last part I turned up the heat and our Tatra gave it all back to us. We pulled off the maximum possible loss. Now we are in the sixth place overall. I am sorry about the loss, but it is an integral part of testing of our new truck,” commented Aleš Loprais the today’s stage and worries on the track.

Yesterday  took place the zero stage of the fifth year of the Silk Way Rally, which has started at the Red Square in Moscow. At the starting line stood 99 crews, 75 cars and 24 trucks will compete. The fifth edition of the Silk Way Rally will cover a total distance of 4096 km with about 3000 competitive km.

A spectacular opening ceremony at the Red Square in Moscow was launched at 3pm by the Red Bull show in the sky. In the presence of the Moscow audience and the international press took place the celebration of the opening this year’s Silk Way Rally at 7pm. At the beginning of the Dakar Rally, the difficult stage is switched by another one, even the harder. Yesterday, during the stage many crews failed. The difficulty of the stage hosted by the desert in the fourth day even escalates. During the most important first weeks stage the competitors had to complete the 2 km long extremely hard acclivity, which is probably more difficult than the famous Dakar downhill of the sand hill into the Iquiqe in Chille in the ninth stage of the Dakar 2012.

We started 1st Stage: Lima – Pisco. Weather: 24 degrees, sunny. Trough an acceptance got 183 motorcycles, 38 four-wheelers, 153 automobiles and 75 trucks. The whole amount of competitors stopped at number 449, which means the amount of competitors raised since last years rally by six vehicles.
